Tithe by Law. . .More Under Grace

by Jared Brian

ten commandment tablets

Someone asked this question the other day:

“If it was 10% by law why would it not be 10% or more under Grace?”

New Testament grace was not intended to bring about a NEW revelation that we should happily give more than 10%. God never changed his principle of stewardship, and never intended for it to have a monetary starting place. Israel was to be stewards of 100% of their possessions just like the NT church is supposed to be. The only difference is, we have the Holy Spirit to tutor us, instead of the law.

So, to answer the question, “would [giving] not be 10% or more under grace?”
-Godly giving was never equal to 10% and never less than 100% stewardship. God never changes.

    Gal 5:1-2

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. 2 Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. NKJV

Giving is either FREE…or it is required. Mat 17:26

Receivers should either FREELY give…and FREELY receive Mat 10:8…or require or say you ‘should’ …or ‘must’ …or are ‘obliged to’ give

Under Law there are requirements…under grace we ARE FREE….and we as believers are required to INSIST on our freedom

Give as YOU desire….as YOU choose….as YOU are able. It is between YOU and God….and He loves you and blesses you anyway.

Let LOVE alone be your motivator….and the freedom of the Spirit your instructor
